Let’s make a deal!

Students in Mrs. Kelly’s College Introduction to Real Estate class and Ms. Miller’s Personal Financial Management class at High School East worked collaboratively to simulate the selling and buying process of a home. Both courses are offered through the CTE Business Department under the direction of Christine LoFrese, CTE Director.

Students in Mrs. Kelly’s Real Estate class formed the Reindeer Realty Group. The students created individual gingerbread houses for a new construction housing development called Winter Park in the North Pole. Students priced the homes accordingly and created flyers for marketing purposes, assumed the role of real estate agents and hosted an open house for the Personal Financial Management class. College Introduction to Real Estate is a semester course open to grades 10-12 and students can elect to take the course for 3 college credits through LIU.

Students in Ms. Miller’s Personal Financial Management class wrapped up their personal budgeting unit with learning about how to calculate how much home price they can afford along with their monthly housing payments. The class attended the open house, learned about the new construction development and met individually with the agents. They had to negotiate a purchase price that they could afford. Personal Financial Management is a semester course offered for grades 9-12.
