Student Teacher-Observer-Intern Requests
Dear Future Educator:
It is with great anticipation that I look forward to meeting with you as a future educator. I understand that you are requesting student teaching and internship or observation hours within the Smithtown Central School District.
As we work to determine if we can accommodate your request, please review the information below as it pertains to your potential placement:
- Verify that your name and related contact information is on the list provided to the District from your college placement office indicating that you are requesting a placement for student teaching/observation/intern hours.
- All placements will be secured through the Office for Personnel Services. Please do not seek a placement on your own or make arrangements with building principals, department administrators, academic directors or teachers.
- Complete the required online District application and upload the necessary documents including: college placement requirements, resume, letter of interest, unofficial transcript indicating grades and other documents to support your candidacy as a student teacher, student observer or intern. Failure to submit the requested documents will result in a delay of your potential placement.
- You will be contacted by the District if we have a potential placement.
- Arrangements may be made for selected candidates to interview with administrative staff prior to placement decisions being made. Interviews may be conducted with building principals, assistant principals, department administrators, assistant superintendents or the Superintendent of Schools.
- Candidates will be contacted with a decision and placement information if applicable.
I wish you much success in your anticipated field placement!
Respectfully,
Neil D. Katz
Assistant Superintendent for Personnel
