Rationale for the Smithtown Promise

We believe that it is a school district’s responsibility to provide the support necessary for our students to reach their full potential and to remove barriers that may get in the way of that goal. The Smithtown Central School District is committed to creating a culture of dignity that leads to a greater sense of belonging for our students, staff and stakeholders. The promise is rooted in research-based practices and reflects a focus on engaging the community in support of the established vision and values of the Smithtown Central School District. This work is aligned with our Board of Education’s Goals for 2024-2025 and the Smithtown 2027 Strategic Plan.

Goals of the Promise:

  • To create a lens to view our shared commitment and common understanding of the collective vision for student success.
  • To promote a framework to identify opportunities for adults to actively encourage and support positive habits in our students.
  • To provide simple strategies and resources for creating an environment that prioritizes dignity, belonging and the positive development of our students.
