The Smithtown Central School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education.
Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. Over 1,000 districts and individual school sites (public, private, charter, parochial) were recognized for having the highest commitment to producing exceptional music programs.
“This national recognition would not be possible without our talented and dedicated music educators, administrators, and the supportive Smithtown music community,” said Smithtown Director of Fine Arts, Victoria Hartman. “I am proud to acknowledge the profound impact that music education has on our students here at Smithtown. Receiving this designation further validates our commitment to a quality K-12 music program.
“Music Education is an important tool that bridges the divide between school and life in society,” stated Elementary Music Instructional Specialist, Lyndsay Payne. “It fosters a sense of creativity and gives each child a feeling of belonging and importance. It promotes teamwork and collaboration and brings all aspects of education together. I am proud to be part of this nationally recognized music department and a proud Smithtown alumna!”
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Smithtown Central School District answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs.
