Now in session at Accompsett Middle School, the English as a New Language Extension Program. This program provides K–12 multilingual learners with a dynamic and supportive environment to strengthen their English skills through hands-on learning and meaningful activities.
Elementary students recently dove into an Independence Day theme, exploring vocabulary related to the Fourth of July, creating their own American flag crafts, and listening to the story Nirvana Celebrates the Fourth of July. They are also practicing sequencing skills by retelling events using “first, next, and last.”
Middle school students are exploring the theme, “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up.” Through vocabulary development, writing prompts, and discussions, students are expressing their dreams for the future while expanding their academic English.
High school students are engaging in a variety of enriching activities, including a geography lesson on shells indigenous to Long Island, creating a decoupage craft project with step-by-step instructions, and exploring summer tropical foods by making yogurt parfaits. In addition, they are practicing real-world communication skills through a restaurant-themed lesson that includes dialogue, menu reading, and ordering practice.
This engaging summer program helps students of all ages continue their English language development while building confidence, making new friends, and having fun!
