The SCSD CAMP program is in its 11th year and is designed to enhance students’ academic and social/emotional learning skills. CAMP is an acronym for Character, Academics, Mindfulness, and Preparedness. All activities are grounded in the work of growth mindset (Dweck, 2007, 2012) and CASEL's five core competencies including: self-awareness, self-management; responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
Students take part in developing their learning experiences according to the program's core values, resulting in learners who are more: purposeful and motivated, creative and resourceful, resilient and goal-oriented, and empathetic and compassionate. This is accomplished through opportunities for academic support, cultivating a growth-mindset, digital and technology skill building, self-management and goal-setting, team building, small class sizes, and project based learning.
CAMP program coordinator, Elizabeth Stein says it's a privilege to be a part of CAMP. "It's an honor to be a part of creating experiences for students to relax into opportunities to connect with themselves as learners with increased confidence and awareness," Stein said. " And when they translate any experiences or strategies taught at CAMP into the upcoming school year--even better--that is the ultimate goal."
