Dogwood Elementary School

About Our School

Dogwood Elementary School is one of the seven elementary schools in the Smithtown Central School District.

Our school was opened in 1961. We currently have 404 students in grade kindergarten though fifth grade. Our faculty and staff consists of professionals who are dedicated to making Dogwood Elementary School a great place to learn.

In addition to the basic academic curriculum, our students receive instruction in art, music, physical education, and library. We have an enrichment program for targeted students in grades three through five. We also have a variety of academic intervention programs available for students who may need additional support in the areas on English Language Arts and Mathematics. Fifth graders have the opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument and participate in chorus.

Our staff includes a reading teacher, speech teacher, psychologist, social worker, and a nurse. We provide itinerant services for children who require visual or auditory training and for those who need physical or occupational therapy. We also have English as a Second Language services which are available to those students who require them.

The Dogwood PTA is a very active organization that provides an enriching cultural arts programs and many other events and activities throughout the year to enhance the education of our students.
