You Belong Here, at Dogwood!
In the spirit of Halloween and in conjunction with The Smithtown Promise principal, "You Belong Here," kindergarten students at Dogwood Elementary School put on their engineering hats and designed monsters.
Students learned that when engineers design they have to follow certain criteria and constraints. Each kindergartner was asked to design a monster that included a body, arms, legs and eyes!
At the end of the lesson, students noticed that all of the monsters were different. This was a perfect time to remind students that just like our monsters, we are all different but we all belong.
The four principles of The Smithtown Promise: Your dignity is a given. You belong here. You are a difference maker, and You were made to excel.
The Smithtown Promise is rooted in research-based practices and reflects a focus on engaging the community in support of the established vision and values of the Smithtown Central School District.
