Women in Technology graduates!

January 22, 2024

Congratulations to High School West technology student Ashley Bittner, and High School East technology student, Abigail Brennan, for graduating from the BAE Systems Women in Technology program!

Women in Technology (WiT) is a collaborative effort between local area high schools and BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems sector. WiT gives female high school students with an aptitude in math and science a practical, hands-on opportunity to explore careers in various technical disciplines.  It also provides mentorship to the students to encourage and support them in their pursuit of a technical career.

Ashley and Abigail received hands-on training from BAE engineering in mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing and process engineering. This all culminated in a graduation ceremony and presentation of two final projects. Ashely and Abigail are very involved in the Technology Department and have taken multiple courses to advance their education.

In addition, Ashley and Abigail are both members of the Smithtown Robotics Team. Ashely is the team's Smithtown IAB student ambassador and Abigail is the current team president.  Mr. Costello and Mr. Savage, Technology Education Teachers/Robotics Advisors as well as Mrs. Christine LoFrese, CTE Director, are very proud of both Ashley and Abigail for their hard work and dedication to the program.  They have been leaders in the CTE Technology Department and Robotics team since they were freshmen.

They are excellent role models for the underclassmen, especially advocating for more female students to get involved in the CTE Technology Department and the Robotics Team.
