Welcome to the Board!

July 1, 2026

The Smithtown Central School District Board of Education named its president and vice president as well as welcomed three new members during its annual Organizational Meeting on Wednesday evening.

Matthew Gribbin was once again elected as Board of Education President. Brandon Solomon was elected as board Vice President. Newly elected Board Trustee Tom Minnigan was officially sworn into office, filling the seat previously held by Kevin Craine. Also taking their oaths were the Board's non-voting, student ex officio members Karolina Santora of Smithtown High School East and Maya Slupski of Smithtown High School West. Both students were selected to serve in the role through their positions as their schools' student body presidents.

Maya has served as Student Council President since her freshman year and is actively involved in High School West's Leadership Program. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

"I am truly honored to be chosen to represent my peers as a Student Ex Officio Member of the Board of Education," Maya said. "I'm looking forward to developing a deeper understanding of the Board of Education's decision-making process and hope to provide valuable student feedback and perspective on what takes place in our classrooms and throughout our school community."

Karolina is an active member of High School East's Leadership Committee, Student Government, and Relay for Life. She also belongs to Tri-M Music Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. In addition, she is a graduate of the Zbigniew Herbert Polish Supplementary School in Copiague.

"Thank you so much for welcoming me to the Board of Education," Karolina said. "I'm grateful and honored to have the opportunity to help shape our school community. I look forward to working alongside this amazing team over the next year to continue building strong, supportive schools for all students. I can't wait to get started."

The Smithtown Central School District congratulates Tom, Karolina, and Maya and wishes them a successful year of service to the school community.
