Welcome back to Smithtown!

March 25, 2024

When Victoria Hartman attended Smithtown High School East, she never imagined one day she would return to the district, as its new director of fine arts.

“I’m most looking forward to coming back home for that full circle moment,” Victoria exclaimed.

Effective July 1, Victoria will step in for Michael Mastrangelo, the district’s longtime director of fine arts, who is retiring.

A violinist and graduate of the Crane School of Music, Victoria earned her master’s degree at Stony Brook University, and her administrators license at the College of Saint Rose.

For the last 12 years, she has been teaching in the South Country Central School District in Bellport, and served as the district’s music chairperson during the last four years.

Even though she was out of district, Victoria still had a love for Smithtown and continued to choreograph musicals at High School East for 10 years.

“I want to make sure our kids now get the same experience I had and I look forward to building upon our successful art and music programs. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my teachers in Smithtown. It’s an awesome place.”
