Welcome, Principal Macaluso!

The Smithtown Central School District has announced Mr. Jon Macaluso as the new principal of Smithtown High School West. For the last six years, Macaluso served as an assistant principal at Great Hollow Middle School. Upon learning about the opportunity to take on his latest role as Smithtown High School West’s principal, Mr. Macaluso said he jumped at the chance and is thrilled to serve as the leader of one of two high schools in Smithtown.

“It feels amazing,” Macaluso said. “To be able to come and be a leader of this building is very humbling and to have the opportunity to guide high school students and help prepare them for college and beyond is really a privilege and I’m looking forward to it.”

Macaluso spent the first six years of his career as a school counselor in the Northport-East Northport School District. He then became an administrator and served as an assistant principal at Northport High School for two years. Seeking further opportunities for advancement, Macaluso spent time in the Commack and Connetquot Central school districts as a district director of guidance. He said he’s looking forward to working with high school students and staff.

“Working in the district for six years, I’m looking forward to not only revisiting with students who I knew from years ago, but also familiarizing myself with other students and working with the great staff at High School West.”

Macaluso attended SUNY Geneseo and majored in political science. He attended LIU Post for his Master’s degree in school counseling and later received a second Master’s degree in school administration from Touro College. He is supported by his wife Sarah, who is a speech language pathologist in the Huntington School District, his son Christopher, and daughter, Kate. During his spare time, Mr. Macaluso enjoys volunteering his time as a lacrosse coach, playing golf and is an avid pickleball player. He is also a Yankees, Islanders, Knicks, and suffering Jets fan.
