The Smithtown Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. George G. Gagliardi as Interim Principal of Smithtown Elementary School, effective July 21.
Mr. Gagliardi brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student-centered leadership. He most recently served as Principal of Bretton Woods Elementary School in the Hauppauge School District from 2012 to 2025, where he led with vision, compassion, and a strong focus on collaboration and academic excellence. During his tenure, Bretton Woods was named to U.S. News & World Report Top Schools in New York list.
Prior to his tenure at Bretton Woods, Mr. Gagliardi served as Assistant Principal for five years at Hauppauge High School. He also held the role of Dean of Students at West Islip High School in the West Islip School District from 2005 to 2007. His career in education began in the classroom as a secondary social studies teacher in West Islip, where he taught a range of courses and built the strong instructional foundation that continues to guide his leadership today.
Mr. Gagliardi holds a Bachelor of Arts in history education from Wagner College and a Master of Arts from Stony Brook University. He also completed his school administration program at Stony Brook University.
