Third annual Mills Pond veterans celebration
“Some of you may go home and hug a veteran. Make a phone call to a veteran. FaceTime with a veteran. Visit a veteran. But all of you today have the opportunity to thank a veteran.”
Those were the words of Mills Pond Elementary School Principal Ireen Westrack as the school hosted its third annual Veterans Celebration on Friday.
Students proudly accompanied their relatives who are veterans down a red carpet through the school’s Hall of Heroes, which was beautifully decorated with photographs honoring local veterans.
Guests were treated to patriotic songs performed by students and received thank-you certificates and goody bags created by members of the Mills Pond 4th Grade Cares Club.
“So what makes veterans superheroes?” Ms. Westrack asked the students. “They are selfless, they are brave, they put the needs of others before their own. They even wear a special uniform! They are the reason you have a school to learn in, a home to live in, and the opportunity to achieve your greatest dreams.”
Thank you to all of our veterans, and to Mills Pond Elementary for keeping this meaningful tradition alive. Head to our district Facebook page for more pictures!
