High School East students Satya Konakanchi and Tyler Nicastro, along with East Science Research Coordinator, Maria Zeitlin, recently attended a research conference hosted by Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Both Satya, a junior, and Tyler, a sophomore, presented posters at the BNL NSLS II Users' Meeting.
This conference invites users from the National Synchrotron Light Source II to present their research.
NSLS II opened in 2014 and provides x-rays 10,000 times brighter than the original light source enabling beamline experiments on a wide range of materials.
The students collaborated with West Islip high school students to investigate the x-ray powder diffraction patterns of minerals found in Long Island Soils for the purpose of identification in soil samples.
