Thank you to our SCSD "Heroes"
Behind every student’s success is an educator who believes in their potential, champions their individuality and makes them feel valued. Two such educators in the Smithtown Central School District, Nesaquake Middle School Special Education teacher Emma Peppe and Smithtown High School East World Language teacher Maria Corso, were recently recognized for making a meaningful difference in students’ lives at the Long Island School Hero Awards.

Presented by the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying at The Watermill in Smithtown, the awards celebrated individuals whose compassion, dedication and commitment help create safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments.
For the past seven years, Peppe has taught Life Skills in Smithtown, creating meaningful opportunities for students to become active members of the school community while developing independence, confidence and connections with others.
“I am truly honored to be recognized by the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying,” Peppe said. “We are fortunate to be part of such an incredible community that supports and uplifts our students. Every student deserves to feel safe, accepted and valued.”
Corso is in her 19th year with the Smithtown Central School District, where she teaches Italian to ninth- and 10th-grade students at High School East.
“I am so happy, honored and blessed to receive this award,” Corso said. “My students mean so much to me, and I am proud to work with them and spend time with them each day. I am so glad to know that I have made a positive and memorable impact on a student's life, and I will continue to strive to do so every day.”

According to event organizers, the awards celebrate individuals who make extraordinary contributions to students’ lives through their compassion, dedication and commitment to fostering safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments.
Congratulations to Emma Peppe and Maria Corso on this well-deserved recognition!
