Smithtown High School West junior, Alyssa Faro, has achieved Scouting America's highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award. Alyssa is the first female student from the Smithtown Central School district to earn the Eagle Scout Award since girls were accepted by former BSA (Boys Scouts of America) now known as Scouting America.
In a letter to Alyssa, Superintendent Dr. Mark Secaur stated, in part, “This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to your dedication, perseverance, and leadership….As a female Eagle Scout, you are part of a trailblazing group of young women who have broken barriers and set new standards in Scouting. Your achievement not only honors your personal growth but also paves the way for future generations of girls in the program.”
Alyssa is one of the founders of Troop 539G in Kings Park. To become an Eagle Scout, Alyssa earned more than 21 merit badges and served her troop in a variety of leadership roles. She also completed a major community service project, hosting a soccer clinic for Smithtown Schools. Alyssa wrote up a proposal to the Suffolk County BSA council advancement chair and then discussed it Smithtown Central School District Director of Athletics, Jason Lambert. After being given permission to have the soccer clinic, Alyssa planned and executed a bake sale fundraiser at Saint Joseph’s Parish in Kings Park. The bake sale was a great success which raised almost double of what she had in her plan. The next phase was to plan the soccer clinic. Alyssa recruited a few of her teammates from the High School West soccer team to help. The two-day event raised enough money for Alyssa to purchase soccer equipment, which she donated to High School West.
Alyssa decided to have her Eagle Court of Honor this spring, so she could dedicate her time to studying and her sports performance. Congratulations, Alyssa!
