SCOPE Campers Take Center Stage and the Driver's Seat

The final week of SCOPE Summer Camp was a celebration of creativity, innovation and teamwork as students showcased everything they had learned through memorable performances and exciting robotics competitions.

Students in grades 6-9 brought the stage to life as they concluded two weeks of the SCOPE Summer Theatre Camp with a lively musical revue featuring songs from Annie, The Greatest Showman, Newsies and Hamilton. The production was made possible through the dedication of the camp's creative team, including Ryan MacCarthy, Paige DelColle, Smithtown High School East student Lorenzo Puppolo and Camp Director Michael Hart.

Meanwhile, aspiring engineers and programmers wrapped up the SCOPE Robotics Camp with friendly VEX Robotics competitions and LEGO robotics challenges that put their newly acquired skills to the test.

Eighth and ninth grade students designed, built and coded VEX robots from the ground up, troubleshooting along the way before competing in a soccer-style robotics match. Through the process, campers gained hands-on experience with the engineering design process while strengthening coding, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Younger campers showcased their teamwork and creativity during LEGO robotics activities, designing robots and racing against the clock to complete as many challenge missions as possible within two and a half minutes. Working collaboratively, students strengthened real-world problem-solving abilities while learning the value of communication and perseverance.
