Forget about the Super Bowl-- students at Mt. Pleasant Elementary recently finished participating in READBowl. READBowl is a nationwide reading competition sponsored by a prior NFL player, where students of all ages log and track minutes spent reading over the month.

Students in Ms. Carson and Ms. Wilcox’s classes participated in a full day in-school Read-a-Thon to experience the many types of ways one can get lost in a book. Students enjoyed a live author read-aloud, a surprise virtual read aloud from Malcolm Mitchell himself, and station reading including buddy reading, reading to a stuffy, and flashlight reading.

Students have been tracking their minutes spent reading in school and independently at home each for the last four weeks, or “quarters,” of the competition.

Together, Ms. Wilcox and Ms. Carson’s students read a total of 127,931 minutes!
