Pillars for success at Smithtown IAB Women's Conference
The Smithtown Industry Advisory Board (IAB) Women’s Leadership Conference brought together more than 30 accomplished professional women to mentor and inspire over 50 students from High School East and High School West. Representing a wide range of industries from media arts and hospitality to law enforcement, these industry partners shared powerful stories of both struggle and success, creating an engaging and impactful experience for all in attendance.

The conference featured three dynamic sessions: Breakout Speed Networking, a keynote address by 1010 WINS Long Island reporter Sophia Hall, and the debut of the “Four Pillars of Success” seminars. Each session offered students valuable opportunities to connect, learn, and reflect on their own future career paths.
The “Four Pillars of Success” seminars focused on Leadership, Integrity, Perseverance, and Positivity—essential traits for personal and professional growth. Presenters brought these concepts to life through their own experiences. Audra Fordin, certified mechanic, business owner, and host of “Women Auto Know,” emphasized the importance of perseverance. Jessica Spencer, Deputy Bureau Chief at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, spoke about integrity in the workplace. Barbara Heapy, Community Relations Coordinator at The Bristal in Lake Grove, highlighted the power of positivity and forward thinking. Adding a unique peer perspective, High School West senior Ashylynn Renkowski shared her journey and encouraged students to get involved in school programs to build strong leadership skills.
Under the guidance of Executive Director Phil Como and CTE Director Christine LoFrese, the Smithtown IAB continues to foster meaningful partnerships that provide students with real-world insight and opportunity. Events like this conference give students a deeper understanding of potential career paths while helping them develop confidence and direction for the future.

The event was thoughtfully organized with support from the FLIP Event Planning Team, led by Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Jaclyn Grebosz, whose efforts were instrumental in its success.
The district extends its sincere thanks to the Board of Education and administration for their continued support, as well as to all IAB partners who dedicate their time and expertise to our students. Special appreciation goes to event sponsor Kristine Chayes and IAB subcommittee members Karen Arthus, Lisa Leary, Madalyn Moeller, Lisa Mitnick, and Lenore Paprocky for their contributions in making this event truly memorable.
