Meet two of the newest members of the Smithtown Board of Education for the upcoming school year, High School East senior Alexa Lipp, and High School West senior, Madelyn Donaghy. The two have been elected to serve as non-voting, ex officio members of the board, due to their roles as student body presidents.
Madelyn has been Student Council president since her freshman year. She says she’s excited to give a student perspective on certain questions or give opinions on issues that involve the student body.
“I’m looking forward to being involved in discussions and in the process to more accurately understand how processes are implemented in the school and to give my perspective and help the other board members to see how their decisions affect the students," Madelyn told us. In the future, Madelyn wants to be an orthopedic surgeon.
Alexa is entering her second year as Student Council president, is a member of several honor societies, is an intern at Brookhaven National Laboratory High School Research Program and is an EMT attendant in Commack.
“I’m honored to be part of the Board of Education, to sit in the meetings and provide feedback on what’s happening in the classroom,” Alexa told us.
