The Smithtown Central School District is proud to recognize Mills Pond STEM Instructional Specialist Serena Spata and Tackan Elementary STEM Instructional Specialist David Junz, who have been accepted into the prestigious New York State Master Teacher Program.

The program honors outstanding K–12 public school STEM teachers and counselors who demonstrate excellence in instruction, a commitment to their own professional growth, and a passion for collaborating with colleagues to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.

Both Spata and Junz have dedicated 25 years to the Smithtown Central School District.

“I’m looking forward to the professional development opportunities and being part of a community of passionate educators,” Junz said.

“I’m honored to be part of the New York State Master Teacher Program,” Spata added. “I’m excited to collaborate with a network of peers who share my passion for excellence in education.”

SCSD Director of Science Dr. Stephanie O’Brien praised the recognition, stating, “We are so proud of Serena and Dave for being named Master Teachers. In their roles as STEM Specialists, they have been driving forces behind our newest curriculum initiatives, making science and mathematics more accessible and engaging for every student. This honor is a true testament to their dedication to excellence in instructional design and teaching.”
