Journey into Native American history
Students at Smithtown Elementary recently stepped into the past through Indian Journeys, an immersive educational program founded by anthropologist Robert Vetter.
The experience brought a “moving museum” right to school, featuring authentic Native American artifacts and hands-on activities that connected students with Native American history and culture.
Throughout the day, students explored artifacts, learned about traditional symbols and storytelling, played traditional games, learned about the Iroquois Government and even created their own clay pots using the traditional coil method.
