Hitting the high notes at SEL!

January 10, 2024

Smithtown Elementary fifth graders received some great news today, as seven students were awarded some high musical honors.

Six students were accepted to the Suffolk County Music Educators' Association (SCMEA) and one student was accepted to the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA).

The SCMEA All-County Festival is a series of concerts that include musicians in grades 5-10 throughout Suffolk County.

The Long Island String Festival brings together exceptional string players from Nassau and Suffolk County school districts to perform challenging orchestral pieces over a few days, culminating in a concert directed by esteemed conductors and educators.

Congratulations to the following SCMEA honorees: Julia Kim (Flute 1- Band), Juliana Mezzapesa (Clarinet 2- Band),

Kaspar Hsieh-Boehm (Cello - Orchestra), and Chorus students Lyssandra Nieves, Abigail Kleinman and Louis Shea.

Congratulations to LISFA honoree, Lyssandra Nieves (Cello).
