High School West celebrates seniors in science!
May 28, 2026
Smithtown High School West hosted its annual Senior Science Awards and Symposium this week, a premier event dedicated to recognizing the exceptional achievements, dedication, and innovations of the graduating class's top science students. The memorable evening brought together educators, families, and peers to celebrate student success across three areas: Academic excellence in specific science disciplines, the completion of the PLTW Biomedical Science pathway, and original projects showcased by science research students.
The night began with a dynamic, symposium-style showcase organized by Smithtown West Research Coordinator Mr. Brian Snyder. Research students presented their original scientific projects to peers, families, and administrators. Transforming the venue into a bustling hub of intellectual exchange, students stood alongside their research posters to present their hypotheses, methodologies, and findings. Attendees engaged directly with the student-scientists, asking questions and discussing the real-world implications of their work. The evening commenced with the presentation of the department top senior awards. Science faculty selected outstanding seniors who have demonstrated unparalleled academic excellence, curiosity, and leadership in specific scientific disciplines.
The individual award recipients honored for their exceptional performance are:
- Physics Award: James Flynn (Presented by Mr. Limoli)
- Chemistry Award: Batuhan Yuce (Presented by Mr. Bollerman)
- Biology Award: Madelyn Donaghy (Presented by Ms. Albanese)
