High School East senior steps up for veterans
High School East senior, Andrew Davidson, was recently awarded the Danielle Alduino Scholarship Award for community service!
Andrew’s project, conducted at the VFW Smithtown Post 811, chose to honor those who have served our nation by revitalizing the grounds at American Legion Post 833. His work went far beyond a simple repair; he orchestrated the replacement of a deteriorating fence with two new 50-foot fences, transforming the space into a dignified tribute.
The project featured:
- Custom-made plaques bearing the insignia of each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
- Spotlights to illuminate the tribute.
- Purple peonies planted to beautify the space.
This project also earned Andrew the Eagle Scout award. His efforts have drawn gratitude from the veterans at the post and recognition from local officials, including Suffolk County Comptroller John M. Kennedy Jr. and Legislator Leslie Kennedy.
