HSW students "Making Waves"
Our Smithtown West Marine Science students took their Blue Schools banner to the BOCES Environmental Lab at Sunken Meadow State Park for a hands-on learning adventure with the NYS DEC’s I Fish NY program!
Students explored the most common sportfish found in Long Island Sound, discovered exciting careers in environmental science, and learned about local fishing regulations. They also put their science skills to work by conducting water quality tests and contributing data to the global Cousteau EarthEcho Challenge.
The adventure continued with a surfcasting workshop, where students grabbed their rods and tried fishing in the Sound! Along the way, they practiced new techniques, enjoyed the great outdoors, and learned alongside the fantastic DEC staff!
