“This was such a fun experience and I hope to do it again...Everyone was so welcoming.”
Those were the words of High School West junior, Cordelia Comando, after her and
students of the Smithtown High School West Chamber Orchestra and Tri-M Music Honor Society Chapter #1338 had the honor this past weekend performing for the residents of the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University.
"We could not be more grateful for the opportunity to bring the joy of music to the men and women who selflessly and courageously served our country in the armed forces," High School West orchestra director, Joseph Cotignola stated. "We would like to thank all of the distinguished residents for attending our performance and for the many sacrifices they have made for our country. Music is a powerful force that can significantly impact our emotions, well-being, and even brain function. It can evoke strong feelings, reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, and even promote social connection. I am so proud of our students for donating their time and talents and for performing so beautifully today."
A special thank you to Smithtown senior Sydnie Vogel and Rho Kappa for arranging this performance and Master of Ceremonies, Tri-M President Kevin Castellano.
