H.S. West's Heng Ye a Merit winner

High School West senior, Heng Ye, has been selected as a winner of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. Heng is one of 2,500 winners chosen from a pool of over 15,000 finalists!

Winners in each state are judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

These scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the students and their high schools. This includes their academic record, including the difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminary SAT and the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the finalist and a recommendation written by a high school official.

Heng Ye he has developed numerous electronic and software projects featured in media outlets such as Newsday as well as receiving the Congressional App Challenge award for New York's First District for his work at the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. Heng will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall.
