From the Classroom to the Rink

What does it take to make a professional hockey team a success beyond the ice? Students from Smithtown High School East and West got an inside look at the business of hockey during New York Islanders Sports Business Day at UBS Arena in Elmont.

In Mr. Hennings’ and Mr. Costello’s Sports Marketing classes, offered through the district’s CTE Business Department, students explored exclusive arena spaces, including the UBS Club, Dime Club and Hyundai Club. They also heard firsthand from Islanders executives in sales, marketing, social media and public relations.

Students had the opportunity to network with peers from across Long Island, receive a ticket to an upcoming Islanders game and enjoy a special viewing of the team’s optional skate!
