Finding their reading rhythm!

At Tackan Elementary, first grade teachers Mrs. Savino-Reumann and Ms. Kraft partnered with District ELA Coach Dr. Gallery to bring an engaging fluency protocol to life through reading partnerships. Students were thoughtfully paired and trained not only to become fluent readers, but also supportive and effective reading coaches for one another.

Over four days, students practiced the story One Look from the Geodes collection, building their skills in accuracy, rate, and prosody. They then planned and rehearsed a performance reading for a culminating “Fluency Idol” showcase, where their hard work truly shined.

In addition, students strengthened their comprehension by retelling stories in 10 words or less and identifying key facts—demonstrating that strong reading is about both expression and understanding.
