East leadership students celebrate NYS Seal of Civic Readiness success

Twenty-three senior leadership students from High School East were recognized Tuesday after earning the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness by successfully completing a Civics Capstone Project.

SCSD Director of Social Studies Charles Benvenuto, along with High School East Leadership advisor Morgan Tavis praised the students and handed out medallions which the students will wear under their gowns at graduation.

Some of the projects run by the students included fundraisers for veteran organizations such as the Green Beret Foundation, developing Earth Day lessons for elementary school students and aiding animal shelters and the Paws of War organization by hosting supply drives and fundraisers.

Assistant Superintendent Paul Strader, High School East Principal Robert Rose and Kevin Colon, Administrator for Guidance and Related Student Services were on hand to celebrate the students.

The students recognized are: Julia Agostinelli, Lily Amato, Aaliyah Bartolotta, Ryan Brid, Cassia Rose Corron, Kayla Cox, Emerson Cozine, George Donohue, Andrew Epstein, Lauren Figueroa, Sarah Gonzalez, Aidan Granahan, Caileigh Harrigan, Giovanna Lombardi, Brendon Marz, Riley McGovern, Catherine O'Connor, Emma Palladino, Willow Pomisel, Taylor Saar, Anthony Spiezio, Jessica Sucharski, Luke Surrusco.

High School West students who completed their Civics Capstone Projects will be honored Wednesday.
