May 30, 2025

Smithtown High School West senior, Joseph Davide, was a recent recipient of the SCHSPA Leadership Award, which is awarded to a high school senior who has demonstrated exemplary leadership characteristics. Joseph was nominated by Principal William Holl, who praised Joseph at a recent awards luncheon.

“This student is not only an innovator and a changemaker - they are also a role model,” Holl exclaimed. “As a senior member of the school improvement team, he is working to build community, grow club participation, and even plan creative district-wide initiatives. For Joseph's academic excellence, leadership, character, and the profound impact he's already had on his peers and their community, it is my privilege to present this Leadership Award.”

Smithtown Central School District Superintendent, Dr. Mark Secaur, was also at the luncheon in which Joseph was honored.
Joseph is a part of National Honor Society, Math Honor Society (founder of the math team), Science Honor Society, Rho Kappa (History) Honor Society, and English Honor Society.
He is co-president and varsity captain of quiz bowl, co-editor-in-chief of Penumbra literary magazine, Philosophy club officer, and a Science Olympiad team competitor and four-time regional medalist. Joseph is also the founder of the Smithtown Environment Alliance and a member of Smithtown Green Team.
