Please join us in celebrating Great Hollow Middle School 8th grader, Patrick Citera, whose essay submission in the Ancient Order of Hibernians' "Irish History Writing Contest" placed 1st in his Division Level and 2nd at the County level!
This year's essay contest topic was "The Golden Age of Irish Literature: the 1920's.
Patrick's essay gave some background on what Ireland was like in the 1920's and then focused on William Butler Yeats' influence on Irish literature, whose book, The Celtic Twilight, he thought was interesting because of its ties to Irish folklore. myths, and magic. His essay also included commentary about James Joyce, noting the important role his book Ulysses played in helping to establish a "Golden Age" in Irish literature.
