Students from Ms. Barricelli’s Italian classes at Accompsett Middle School recently participated in the Annual American Association Teachers of Italian (AATI) Poetry and Song Competition. The event took place at Hofstra University and was open to students from all over Long Island in grade levels 6 to 12.
The competitors include: 7th grader Sienna Brady and 8th graders Dylan Verga, Eitan Rubric, Liubomyr Budash, Julia Lovejoy and Ivy Casalino.
Ivy won 3rd Place for singing in the Contemporary Song category!
Students who study Italian memorized and recited Italian poetry ranging from the 1200’s to the present in front of a panel of judges. The recitations were judged on presentation, memorization, intonation, pronunciation, and level of difficulty. The singing competition has been a popular category for the last five years. Students have the opportunity to combine their love of Italian with music ranging from opera to contemporary songs. Students who sang an Italian song and were judged on articulation, pronunciation, deliverance, interpretation and difficulty of song. The organization hosted school districts from all over Long Island.
The World Language Department would like to thank all students who competed in the event and is very proud of their hard work, dedication and focus. Congratulations!
