A historic night in SCSD sports history!

April 29, 2026

Cheers echoed, sneakers squeaked, and smiles filled the gym as the Smithtown Central School District celebrated a truly unforgettable milestone—its very first Unified Basketball Game Tuesday night.

Held at Smithtown High School West, more than 30 competitors laced up their sneakers to take on Middle Country. Unified sports bring students of differing abilities together.

"This is my fourth year here in the district at Athletic Director, and when I interviewed for the position I said we need to have unified sports here full time," SCSD Director of Athletics, Jason Lambert said. "We were fortunate enough to get Unified Bowling up, and now we have basketball. It's as positive a sports of environment as you'll ever go to."

The stands were packed with families, staff, and classmates, all rallying behind the teams with excitement and pride. Head Coach Emily Fey, who also coaches the Unified Bowling team, said this night was a long time in the making.

“We've been waiting such a long time for this. We're so happy and thankful to Smithtown. We have 32 players signed up and more are coming....the more the merrier for me," Fey said.

We will have more on this historic night later this week.

Here’s to making history—together.
