The Smithtown Industry Advisory Board (in conjunction with the SCSD CTE program) hosted it’s first Smithtown Healthcare Career Expo on Thursday at High School West.
“Healthcare is growing and there is a huge bunch of kids who are interested in getting a job in the industry,” said Smithtown IAB President Phil Como.
Representatives from all of the major healthcare systems on Long Island (Northwell, Stony Brook, Catholic HS, Gurwin, NYU Langone and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital) were on hand to provide our students with an opportunity to further explore the healthcare career ambitions by talking directly with practitioners, recruiters and university advisors.
High School West’s Juliana DePasquale was amazed at how many different job opportunities were afforded in the healthcare field.
“There’s so many medical fields that people don’t realize so it’s really a great event.”
Topics discussed included important things to put on your resume and specific technical skills companies look for in potential employees.
As an added feature to this event, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics presented virtually to all of the students regarding the current needs in healthcare employment.
