104 students from Smithtown East and West DECA qualified for State Competition. 64 students received award recognition at the Suffolk County DECA Regional Competition. As a result, these students qualify to advance to the New York State Competition to be held this March in Rochester, New York. In addition, there are 40 other students who are completing their manuals for the state level competition. The manuals range from 10-20 pages on various Business/Marketing areas.
Awards were presented to students for categories including accounting, apparel and accessories marketing, automotive services marketing, business management and administration, business law and ethics, business services marketing, financial services, food marketing, hospitality, hotel and lodging management, human resources, marketing communications, marketing management, personal finance, public speaking, quick serve restaurant management, and sports and entertainment marketing. Some worked in teams, while others worked individually.
DECA is an international business/marketing club opened to high school students enrolled in Business courses in the CTE Department. It is a global program that provides students with experiences and activities in areas such as accounting, marketing, finance, accounting, hospitality and management. Participation also develops leadership skills, civic consciousness and social intelligence in participants.
Students who place in the performance and written events in Rochester will qualify to compete at the International DECA Competition in Anaheim, California in April.
