Spice cookies from Germany. Savory cheddar scones from the UK. French and Greek quiche. Smithtown High School students had a taste of international business flare Thursday morning at High School West.
The SCSD School of Business and the World Language Department, in conjunction with the Smithtown Industry Advisory Board, held its annual International Business Career Day on Thursday.
IAB Executive Director Phil Como says, “We’re really trying to show students the opportunity in a multitude of different careers whether it being the usage of language, culture, customs, in international business.”
More than 50 students took part in the day’s events which included guest businesspeople from a variety of fields to speak with students about their career options.
There was also a wonderfully tasty international cuisine prepared by baking classes from High School East and High School West.
Special thank you to FCS teachers: Connie Smith, Jaclyn Grebosz, Kristen Hayes and Kaitlyn Cosgro for the wonderful food!
Opening remarks were made by SCSD Superintendent Dr. Mark Secaur, along with Phil Como, Director of World Languages Vincenza Graham and CTE Director Christine LoFrese.
Finally, former World Language teacher Diana Riccoboni was recognized for her more than 40 years in education as a World Language Instructional Specialist, Italian/Spanish teacher, Advisor of the Italian Honor Society, Advisor to the Acoustic Cafe, and Lead Coordinator of IAB.
Diana was given the Smithtown IAB spotlight award and a proclamation from Suffolk County Legislative Office.
Congratulations!
