The Smithtown Historical Society is often called “Smithtown’s hidden gem.”
On Wednesday, third graders from Tackan Elementary found it, and found out a whole lot about Long Island history.
Mrs. Beard’s and Mrs. Sullivan's third grade classes visited the Smithtown Historical Society to learn about what life was like in the 1700s on Long Island.
The students participated in hands on activities such as candle making and leather stamping. The teachers called the visit a "precursor to the 4th grade curriculum."
The students were also able to take home leather souvenirs which they stamped with either their initials or a picture.
The Smithtown Historical Society has served the community since 1955, preserving local history for future generations.
