Students in the High School East journalism class have taken on a new project this year: Broadcasting!
Every morning the students produce a broadcast to play on Youtube, under the guidance of teacher Griffin Tokarski.
"The goal is to create an environment that mimics a real studio/newsroom." said Mrs. Tokarski. "Our students learn the importance of professionalism on and off the cameras."
Mrs. Tokarski adds that many students are taking this class in preparation for college next year where they are majoring in journalism with hopes of continuing on professionally.
"We have really come a long way," she added.
"These kids single handedly built this studio with me, learned all the equipment this year, and have been able to put on a live broadcast every morning for the whole school."
Production manager Mia Baric single-handedly edits and uploads every broadcast within the time frame of one class. The students also produce a print paper that is a compilation of their bi-weekly articles. The students write, interview, and provide a photograph for every story they produce.
Editor Krista Lisanti holds pitch meetings and edits every student's article prior to it going to press.
