Grades 10 & 11: College Testing Webinar This Student/parent workshop for sophomores and juniors on College Admissions Testing reviews the PSAT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Mr. Tom Elhers, Method Test Prep, will discuss the different types of college testing assessments & provide some helpful testing strategies. Melissa Bellantonio from Adelphi University will address: How does college testing impact college admissions. The end of the presentation is followed by a question and answer session where parents are given the opportunity to ask questions related to college testing exams and college admissions.
Grade 12: College Application Process Webinar Presentation Slides The program outlined the college application procedures. Helpful hints were shared along with do’s and do nots with regard to applying to college and utilizing Naviance. In addition to this evening guidance program, counselors visited all seniors in their Social Studies classes. The excitement of senior year is welcomed by students as they prepare for their next educational endeavor.
Grades 11 & 12: High School Financial Aid Night Webinar - Finding Money for College: Basics of Financial Aid and the FAFSA® Process Presentation Slides Ms. Amy Thompson, Vice President for Community Relations at St. Joseph’s College, will present on the financial aid process. In detail, she reviews the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet, CSS Profile, important due dates, explains State Aid and specifies what loans parents may wish to pursue. At the end of the presentation, she addresses parents’ specific financial concerns.
Grade 9: Welcome Freshman/Transition to HS Webinar Presentation Slides High school counselors explain the importance of developing a four-year plan that embraces self-exploration, challenging courses, extra-curricular activities, and academic success.
Grades 10 & 11: Evening College Fair Date: March 24, 2022 Grade: 11 Location: TBD Time: 7 p.m. Kevin Colon, Administrator for Guidance and Related Student Services, and the high school counselors, host Smithtown Central School District’s Annual Evening College Fair. Students and parents are given the opportunity to meet with over 95 college representatives from a variety of colleges. This program gives students and parents the opportunity to visit information booths regarding admission criteria, popular majors, finance, scholarships, social life, housing, athletics and much more.
Grade 12: Senior Scholarship Night Date: June 2, 2022 Grade: 12 Location: TBD Time: 6:30 p.m. The Senior Scholarship Night recognizes seniors for their talents and special accomplishments.
College Application in classrooms Counselors meeting students during social studies classes to discuss the college application process. On-site Admissions Day Admission representative from Suffolk Community College, St. Joseph’s, Hofstra and SUNY Farmingdale meet with students who have signed up for an appointment to go over their application and credentials and give a decision on acceptance. The application fee will be waived and the representative will also in many cases award scholarship money. Mini College Day Spring and Fall- HSW Period 4&5, HSE period 7&8 North Shore consortium of 52 college representatives set up booths at the High Schools during the day to meet with sophomores and juniors. Freshmen Meet your Counselor 9th grade students meet in groups with their assigned counselor. Career Exploration 10th grade students meet in groups in computer labs to receive Naviance passwords and take a career assessment inventory. Scheduling 9th, 10th and 11th grade students meet in groups in computer labs with their counselor to make course selection for the next school year. Wilson Tech Meeting and Field Trip Wilson Tech counselors meet with interested students to review the program at the high school. A field trip to the campus is offered to those who wish to attend junior year. Junior Conferences Counselors meet individually with juniors and their parents to discuss post-graduation plans and to review the college process.
