Way to go, Team 810!

March 26, 2024

This past weekend the Smithtown Robotics Team 810 competed in the FIRST Long Island Regional held at Hofstra University. This is truly an International competition in which Smithtown competed with 49 teams from across Long Island as well as France, Canada and Taiwan.

The Mechanical Bulls’ robot proved to be well designed, durable, reliable and incredibly consistent. With the hard work of the pit crew, drive team and support from the entire team, the Mechanical Bulls earned a trip to the playoffs. Smithtown became the sixth seeded alliance captain and selected Team 287, William Floyd High School and Team 8020 from Taipei as their alliance partners for their run in the playoffs.

The Mechanical Bulls proved to be a formidable opponent, beating the number 2,3,4 and 5 seeded alliances to earn their way to the finals for the competition. The team lost in the finals going home as the captain of the number two team at the competition.

Team President Abigail Brennan earned the Dean’s List Finalist Award at the competition for an unprecedented second consecutive year. This is the third year in a row for the Smithtown Mechanical Bulls team. This award is given to the students who best embody the ideals of the FIRST organization. Abigail will now go on to compete at the World Championships in Houston Texas to earn a spot as one of the top students in the FIRST organization.

The Smithtown Robotics Team is part of the CTE Technology Department at Smithtown High School.  The Team Advisors are Brian Costello and Dave Savage, Technology Education Teachers and Christie LoFrese, CTE Director.
