Holocaust education at HSW

March 4, 2024

“You can make a difference for the next generation.”

Those were the words of Dr. Bernie Furshpan, the son of two Holocaust survivors, who spoke to High School West students on Monday, March 4.

Dr. Furshpan, who is an educator at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove, educated students and took questions about his parents experience during the Holocaust.

“There’s always hatred but let’s stop this nonsense,” Dr. Furshpan told the students. “Let’s grow as a society.”

This program was brought together by Director of Social Studies, Dr. Benevenuto, and social studies teacher, Jen Keller, as part of all 10th grade social studies curriculum.

Dr. Furshpan is scheduled to visit students at High School East this Friday.
