Both HSW and HSE Family and Consumer Science Baking II students received a demonstration on cake decorating from Smithtown High School West Class of 2015 alumnus, and owner of The Whisk Bakery in Smithtown, Amanda Vigliarolo.
Much of her presentation focused on her career pathway that led her to being an owner of a bakery. Amanda attended Johnson and Wales University to gain her degree in the culinary arts. The bakery she owns now is the same one she worked in when she found her passion in the culinary arts at age 14!
Amanda brought all of the essentials to work with the students to decorate a full 8" round bakery cake. She led the presentation by explaining the different tools she uses to create bakery items, such as the cake they decorated. The students enjoyed not only watching her demonstrate cake decorating, but also, enjoyed the cake afterwards.
