H.S. EAST SCIENCE STUDENTS HONORED
SUPER IN SCIENCE!
Congratulations to Smithtown High School East science research seniors Sarah Schubel, Aman Mistry and Leigh Baratta for becoming finalists in the NSPC Health Science Competition!
The three students spent this summer working on their individual projects, two at Stony Brook University and one at the high school with Science Research Coordinator Maria Zeitlin.
Sarah conducted an animal science study focusing on the affects of perturbing a brain receptor found in animals and humans.
Leigh looked at the effects of the perception of beauty in regards to invasive insect species proliferation.
Aman conducted a computational biology study on a critical protein sequence present in HIV 1 which may be present in other pathogens.
"These three students exemplify the quality of student research present in this program," Ms. Zeitlin says.
"They will help to solve problems in many diverse areas of scientific research."
Next up: The May 18th finals in Rockville Centre.
East Principal Robert Rose and Ms. Zeitlin joined the three finalists for a victorious picture.
