They did it!
Smithtown High School East seniors enjoyed a perfect Friday night with their long awaited graduation.
Assistant Superintendent Kevin Simmons, who was the principal at East for 3 1/2 years before moving to the district office, was the keynote speaker.
He was introduced by Principal Robert Rose.
The two student speakers were Aman Mistry, who was voted by fellow seniors as the honor speaker, and Trishaulla Kanhai, who is president of the Class Council.
Aman, who will be attending Stony Brook University, recalled showing up at high school and seeing the 6-foot seniors with facial hair and telling his parents he was going to be like that someday. He also went through achievements of the class, from athletic feats to scientific awards.
Trishaulla will be attending the University of New Haven as a forensic science major.
401 students graduated Friday night. After the congratulatory speeches, the seniors were awarded diplomas and then participated in the traditional moving of the tassels to indicate their becoming alumni of the Smithtown Central School District.
