Smithtown Elementary fifth graders are getting advanced engineering experience.

With the assistance of Project Lead the Way instructor Kelly Bigliani, the students received hands-on experience with robotics on Friday afternoon.

The students first practiced maneuvering their remote-controlled robot vehicles. They then began making their own modifications.

The sophisticated vehicles even had sensors that alerted them to stop when they reached a red line.
