Dogwood Elementary School rang in the New Year in style on Monday.

Members of the Leadership Club from the fourth grade joined principal Renee Carpenter in her office at 9:40 a.m. for a New Year’s countdown shared throughout the entire school. And students celebrated the arrival of 2022 with a New Year’s Ball during gym and with a festive lunch menu.

Along the lines of a New Year’s resolution, Carpenter invited the students to set a goal for the upcoming year. She used examples of being a better reader, being a better friend, improving on an instrument and having a sports goal.

“What is it you would like to accomplish this second half of the year?” Carpenter asked the students.

During gym, students participated in line dances including the Electric Slide and Cha Cha Slide as well as competed maneuvering under a limbo stick.

The lunch menu included New Year’s specialty popcorn chicken.

Students dressed up with bow ties and other New Year’s attire.
