High School West student-artists Maris O’Brien and Samantha Pesiri recently had their artwork selected to the Heckscher Museum’s Long Island’s Best High School art exhibition.

The exhibition is the only juried one on Long Island that offers high school students the opportunity to show their work in a museum. Each year, students in grades nine through 12 are invited to create a work of art inspired by artwork shown in the museum during the current school year and submit to this prestigious juried exhibition. Hundreds of works of art are submitted from schools across Nassau and Suffolk counties and approximately 80 are chosen for display in the exhibition.

Maris’ acrylic painting, “Ripple,” was inspired by Philippe Cheng’s “Magnolia.” After the exhibit at Heckscher, her work will be displayed in Mitchell’s window in Huntington Village. Samantha mixed media artwork, “Visceral Reaction.” was inspired by Amanda Valdez’s “Grace IV.” Samantha earned the Firefly Gallery’s Next Generation award. Her work will be displayed in their gallery after the exhibition.
